My name is Travis Kerwin and I am a missionary working in Mexico.
Now, I know what you thinking “What does a missionary know about fighting?” And if you ask the last guy I fought, he would have to agree with you.
Before I moved to Mexico in September of 2008, I trained and fought out of Charlie’s Combat Club in Everett Washington. I began training in January 2005, right before the first season of the Ultimate Fighter aired. I had my first fight on September 30, 2006. I did really well in the first round and then gassed my self out and was knocked out 30 seconds in to round 2. My next fight in March of 2008 went well, I started off blocking punches with my face, and then managed to get lifted up and slammed down where I instinctively let my opponent mount me and punch me in the face. I ended up tapping out to a key lock half way through the first round.
After I moved to Mexico, I was discouraged because I could not find a MMA gym near me, or anyone close to my size willing to train with me. I finally found a gym after a year of searching and I have begun training again. My new coach watched my fights on You Tube and for the first few weeks I was there he had me doing cardio work outs and sit ups, he has a keen eye for what I need to work on.
