Delighted to see your continued progress! Prayers and best wishes. I don't know if you know Skip Chase, but he is a Crossfit owner/trainer who had a R&R done about a year ago, and he is doing dips, muscle-ups, starting overhead squatting and pressing and is an incredible success story and inspiration.

He owns Mt. Baker Crossfit, which I think is up in your neck of the woods.

Hi Brandon, Congrats on your progress! Taking a year to fully recover makes your surgery MAJOR !
For my husband Wayne, who I wrote to you about in December, Monday we met with Dr. Iannotti at the Cleveland Clinic and although Wayne WILL need total shoulder replacement someday, not right now as the first doc diagnosis a year ago in our hometown. This probably would have put Wayne out of work and on disability. As it turns out after a second opnion with
Dr.Iannotti, he has determined Wayne still has a round ball and although bone on bone with arthritis did not feel this is the right time for TSR. Wayne's main problem turns out Dr.I will repair and clean up AC joint next Thursday Feb. 2. The resurfacing is only recommended 10 % of the time by Dr. I. This slim window of opportunity will relieve most of Waynes pain and return range of motion/function and allow him to return to work(mechanical contractor< wrenches, heavy lifting, pushing and pulling, climbing etc.)after four months recovery. Wayne will then have transition time to phase out of so much labor (which caused the problem) and continue at his job, hopefully for 10 years.(This may take a miricle but I rely on miracles!)Before he needs replacement. He is 58. We have been married just two years. So, Dr. Matsen, on Christmas Eve! sent us an email suggesting we find someone close to us in the midwest and wished us luck. God led me to Dr. Iannotti. Best wishes to you. Your blog comtinues to inspire Wayne and many others I'm sure. Peace, Jann

Been following your progress the last 3 weeks and glad to see your doing well.
I have an appointment with Dr Matsen tomorrow.
Have the exact same issue as you except the left shoulder. I really appreciate your weekly videos. They let he know what I'm in for.
Stay well,
Herb

I'm really happy to find your blog. And I'm happy that it's so current. I broke my left shoulder when I was 12. The break went directly through the center of the ball. That was in 1986. As you already know, treatment was horrible. My parents didn't really understand at the time the importance of seeing a specialist or physical therapy. So I had neither. I recovered, and everything seemed fine until I turned 30. All of a sudden, my shoulder hurt so badly, and I gradually ended up with about 20% range of motion. My family doctor sent me to physical therapy. After several weeks and only worsening symptoms, they sent me to an orthopedic surgeon. The ball in my shoulder is egg shaped, and there were several bones spurs and my labrum was torn. Arthroscopic surgery fixed that. However at the time, my dr told me that someday I will have to get it replaced. I am now 37 and over the last few months, I'm experiencing pain on a more consistent basis, and more weakness. I had an MRI tonight and compared my images to those of a healthy one. It looks like someone took a hatchet to the ball, and the tissue around it is a disaster. So, I'm fairly certain that it's probably time. Some of your pictures give me the creeps and make me really nervous. But I'm so thankful that you're posting everything in such detail. I'm just glad that my kids are all old enough to do most things for themselves. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks. I will be pouring through your blog, starting with Week 1. Do you have any regrets? Do you look back and think you should have asked for something else, or done something differently, or wish that something would have been better during your hospital stay or afterwards? Any suggestions? Thanks again! Standsmom

Hank,

Although the ream and run seems like a great procedure why not try non surgical procedures our first like ones from www.regenexx.com or www.caringmedical.com. Definitely worth a shot before getting cut open IMHO.

Hank,
Dr Matsen created the procedure in response to the socket wearing out in normal shoulder replacements. I did immense research before I had the surgery. It has been amazing for me.
