UFC 121 Predictions by The Fight Pastor

I can’t wait for Saturday night. The UFC has put together a stacked fight card. In my humble opinion this is the best card they have put out in 6 months. If you are looking for a place to watch the fights with a bunch of hard core fans, join The Fight Pastor at Canyon Creek Church!

As always, here are my predictions for Saturday nights fights. I purchased a copy of Fight Magazine in the airport in Newark to enjoy on my flight and was shocked by their picks for the main fights. I have to say, I think the employees at Fight Magazine got a lot of these wrong. If you are a betting man, avoid their picks but take a close look at these!

Jon Madsen by decision over Gilbert Yvel

Chris Camozzi by 2nd round submission over Dongi Yang

Mike Guymon by decision over Daniel Roberts

Sam Stout by decision over Paul Taylor

Patrick Cote by 2nd round TKO over Tom Lawlor

Court McGee by decision over Ryan Jensen

Brendan Schaub by 2nd round TKO over Gabriel Gonzaga

Matt Hamill by decision over Tito Ortiz

Paulo Thiago by decision over Diego Sanchez

Martin Kampmann by decision over Jake Shields

(My upset pick of the night!)

And in the main event, the UFC heavyweight championship….

Brock Lesnar by TKO in the 2nd round over Cain Velasquez

My UFC 121 predictions are officially in the books! I think a couple of the fights are pretty tough to call. I vacillated on the Tito Ortiz versus Matt Hamill fight. I not a fan of either of them though my heart wanted Tito to win. (I want to see the Tito vs Iceman fight bad!). I also think the Diego Sanchez versus Paulo Thiago fight is too close to call (though with my arm twisted I picked Thiago).

My upset pick of the night is Martin Kampmann over Jake Shields. Kampmann has been making monster improvements with every fight and I think Shields is due for some first UFC fight jitters. That should be enough for Kampmann to pull out a surprising victory.

In the main event, I don’t see any way that Cain Velasquez can beat Brock Lesnar. All 5 contributors to Fight Magazine predicted a Velasquez win. I think they are way off. Brock wins this handily.

ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET, GO…..let the debating and bantering begin!

UFC 120 Predictions by The Fight Pastor

The UFC is beginning to hold so many events a month it is becoming difficult to keep track. Next week’s card is the stacked card you will not want to miss. Fight Pastor will be hosting a viewing of UFC 121 at Canyon Creek Church. If you are looking for a place to watch next Saturday’s fights come join us.

Before I get too far ahead of myself, the UFC is blessing us with a free fight card THIS Saturday. While the card itself is less intriguing than a UFC Fight Night on Spike, it is free so who am I to complain.

For those of you that care, here are the Fight Pastor’s picks for UFC 120. Short, sweet, and deadly accurate….

James McSweeney by 2nd round TKO over Fabio Maldonado

Spencer Fisher by decision over Curt Warburton.

Paul Sass by 2nd round submission over Mark Holst.

Vinicius Queiroz by 2nd round knock out over Rob Broughton.

Cyrille Diabate by decision over Alexander Gustafsson.

James Wilks by decision over Claude Patrick.

Cheick Kongo by 3rd round TKO over Travis Browne.

John Hathaway by decision over Mike Pyle.

Carlos Condit by decision over Dan Hardy.

Michael Bisping by decision over Yoshihiro Akiyama.

There you have it. My predictions for UFC 12o. Let me know what you think. I really wanted to pick Akiyama over Bisping and Browne over Kongo but just couldn’t pull the trigger. Should I have picked them?

UFC 119 Predictions

UFC 119 is coming up this Saturday and it is time for the Fight Pastor’s fearless predictions. I have been on a roll with my predictions since June and I am expecting more of the same this weekend. Before I dive into my predictions I have a couple thoughts.

First, I hate the UFC’s new website. It may be more graphically appealing than their previous version but it is much less user friendly. Sometimes we can be too creative for our own good. I want the old site back!

Second, while I am pumped to watch one of our Fight Pastor boys, Jeremy Stephens, fight this is a below average card. Mir versus Cro Cop is a horrible main event.

There, got all that off my chest. Now lets get down to business. The Fight Pastor’s deadly accurate predictions for UFC 119:

Sean McCorkle by first round TKO over Mark Hunt.

TJ Grant by decision over Julio Paulino

Steve Lopez by decision over Waylon Lowe

Thiago Tavares by decision over Pat Audinwood

Joey Beltran by second round KO over Matt Mitrione

CB Dolloway by 3rd round TKO over Joe Doerksen

Jeremy Stephens by split decision over Melvin Guillard

Evan Dunham by decision over Sean Sherk

Chris Lytle by decision over Matt Serra

Ryan Bader by second round TKO over Antonio Nogueria

Frank Mir by second round submission over Mirko Cro Cop

There you have it. My predictions. Let me know what you think. Let the debating begin. Be looking for Fight Pastor on Jeremy Stephens shorts and banner this Saturday. Also, we haven’t shown an event at the church recently but are planning on hosting the November event. Keep checking back for more information.

UFC 118 Predictions by the Fight Pastor

These fight predictions are made from 10,000 feet in the air as I travel from New York back to Seattle. You have got to love in-flight internet. Now if they would only start having power sources at every seat I could enjoy my internet for the duration of the flight. Unfortunately my lame Sony Vaio battery only lasts for 2 hours. I am gonna get straight to the point before my battery runs out.

The UFC makes their Boston debut in historic fashion on Saturday. We get to see BJ Penn attempt to reclaim his lightweight belt and we get to watch the catchweight superfight between ex-UFC heavyweight champ Randy Couture and ex-heavyweight (boxing) champ James Toney. My fearless predictions:

Mike Pierce by 3 round decision over Amilcar Alves

Nick Osipczak by 3 round decision over Greg Soto

Dan Miller by 2nd round submission over John Salter

Nik Lentz by 3 round decision over Andre Winner

Joe Lauzon by 2nd round submission over Gabe Ruediger

Marcus Davis by 3 round decision over Nate Diaz

Gray Maynard by 3 round decision over Kenny Florian

Damian Maia by 3 round submission over Mario Miranda

Randy Couture by 2nd round TKO over James Toney

BJ Penn by 3rd round TKO over Frankie Edgar

There you have it. The Fight Pastor’s fearless predictions for UFC 118. I apologize for not showing the fight at Canyon Creek Church this weekend. Fight Pastor will be hosting our next viewing party for UFC 119 on September 25th (mark it on your calendar). Unfortunately due to my travel schedule we weren’t able to host a fight in August.

Let me know what you think of my predictions. The two fights I struggled the most to pick were the Davis vs Diaz fight and the Maia vs Miranda fight. I also think there is a slight (though unlikely) chance James Toney could connect and knock Randy Couture out in the first round. Besides that, I am pretty positive about my picks.

UFC 117 Predictions by The Fight Pastor

This Saturday Anderson Silva makes his long awaited return to the octagon and takes another shot at improving his tarnished public image. Chael Sonnen, his opponent, hasn’t helped with his constant trash talking and ridiculing of the Middleweight Champ. UFC 117 will be The Spider’s chance to silence Chael once and for all. Actually I don’t think it is possible to actually silence Chael but maybe Silva can force him to focus completely on his blossoming political career.

This stacked fight card takes place in Oakland, CA which was near the Fight Pastor’s stomping grounds for 6 years ago, Modesto, CA. I was excited to make the trip south to the Bay Area to watch the fights live but unfortunately I couldn’t find anyone else who wanted to go. My wife enjoys mocking me for my lack of ability to drive alone. Instead of watching the fights in person I will be watching them live with my family in the comfort of my theater room in my house. Life is tough.

I am currently 14-6 in my predictions for UFC events for the last half of 2010. UFC 117 will improve that record dramatically. So here are my prophetic predictions for Saturday’s AWESOME fight card. As always, short, sweet and deadly accurate.

Ben Saunders by decision over Dennis Hallman

Stefan Struve by submission in the 2nd round over Christian Morecraft

Johny Hendricks by decision over Charlie Brenneman

Todd Brown by decision over Tim Boetsch

Phil Davis by decision over Rodney Wallace

Rick Story by decision over Dustin Hazelett

Junior Dos Santos by knock out in the 2nd round over Roy “Big Country” Nelson

Ricardo Almeida by decision over Matt Hughes

Clay Guida by decision over Rafael dos Anjos

Jon Fitch by decision over Thiago Alves

And in the Main Event for the Middleweight Championship the winner is….

Anderson Silva by TKO in the 3rd round over Chael Sonnen

I hope you are as pumped for Saturday’s fights as I am! So lets start the trash talk. Am I a prophet or should I be stoned for my picks? Let me hear what you think. My pick for fight of the night is the Almeida vs Hughes fight. Junior Dos Santos will get knock out of the night. Anderson Silva will knock Chael Sonnen out and straight into a full-time political career.

Until Saturday…..
