UFC 126 Predictions by The Fight Pastor

I am sitting in my hotel room at the Mandalay Bay, taking a break from the marathon walking, and watching Terminator 2. This seems like a great time to share my fight predictions for tomorrows UFC event. I consider tomorrows fights the night of upsets. In the words of Mike Goldberg, “Here we go!”

Fight The Good Fight

On Saturday night I had an awesome experience. I was able to watch two fighters that had committed their lives to Christ since attending our church fight. It was unique because most of the relationships we develop with fighters originated because they were Christian fighters that wanted our support. Our relationship with Tim Abbel and Kale Bradford began because they started attending Canyon Creek Church which I have had the privilege of leading for the last 6 years. They were fighters that decided to check out a church because a friend, Kermit, invited them. They committed their lives to Christ and the rest is history. Now they get the privilege of representing Christ while they fight. That is pretty cool!

I considered it a great privilege and joy to be able to watch these guys fight and represent Jesus well on Saturday. Tim won a tough 3 round fight while Kale got caught in an arm bar and lost. Both guys have great potential in the fight industry. They are likely to have fairly long careers if they desire. I was most impressed because win or lose their attitudes stayed the same. Their heads were held high. Win or lose, they are committed to keep fighting.

I was proud to say I was their pastor! Love you guys!

Praying with Kale before his fight.

Praying with Tim before his fight.

UFC Fight For The Troops Predictions

Saturday, on Spike, the UFC will be showing their 2nd Fight for the Troops card. It is not the greatest fight card but since it is free, I really can’t complain. The UFC will does this event to raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. They are also having a benefit online auction with all the proceeds going to Intrepid. So if you have an extra $50,000 to blow and are looking for a UFC edition camaro, you can buy it knowing the money will go to a good cause.

Here are my predictions for Saturdays fights:

Chris Cariaso by decision over Will Campuzano

Amilcar Alves by decision over Charlie Brenneman

Willamy Freire by 2nd round submission over Waylon Lowe

Mike Guymon by decision over DeMarques Johnson

Yves Edwards by 1st round TKO over Cody McKenzie

Cole Miller by 2nd round submission over Matt Wiman

Pat Barry by 3rd round TKO over Joey Beltran

Mark Hominick by decision over George Roop

Matt Mitrione by 2nd round TKO over Time Hague

Evan Dunham by decision over Melvin Guillard

I think it is likely that many of these fights will end in decision, though the fights should be interesting. Let me know what you think.

UFC 124 Predictions by The Fight Pastor

First off, I have been a horrible blogger lately. We are in the midst of a huge building program at my church and it has been dominating my time lately. While I have been busy with my “day” job, Kermit is busy on a mission of mercy in Haiti. He is there building some homes for people in need. Well, Kermit doesn’t have any construction skills so he is likely carrying bags of concrete. Both Kermit and I vow to be better bloggers in 2011! Don’t worry, Fight Pastor has been busy at work.

There is no better way for me to break my hiatus than to give my predictions for UFC 124. For the record, this last season of The Ultimate Fighter was great. I enjoyed the season and the fighters. I didn’t enjoy Josh Koscheck. In my humble opinion, Koscheck lost many potential fans. He acted like a junior high school bully. Fortunately, I am a firm believer in Proverbs 16:18:

“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Koscheck is about to be shut up. Breaking from my normal prediction format. I am starting with the main event.

Josh Koshcheck vs Georges St. Pierre

This fight is pretty simple to predict. Koshceck will try to keep this on the feet. He will hope that his collegiate wrestling prowess will be enough to keep GSP from taking him down over and over. Unfortunately it might work a couple times but St. Pierre is relentless and will take Koshcheck down over and over. He will methodically improve his position and then ground and pound Koshcheck.

GSP is going to prove to his critics that he can finish fights. GSP will submit Koshcheck by rear naked choke in the 2nd round. Is it bad that I am hoping Koshcheck won’t wake up?

Sean McCorkle by 2nd round TKO over Stefan Struve

Jim Miller by decision over Charles Oliviera

Joe Stephenson  by 2nd round TKO over Mac Danzig

Thiago Alves by 3rd round TKO over John Howard

Dustin Hazelett by 3rd round submission over Mark Bocek

Dan Miller by decision over Joe Doerksen

Matt Riddle by decision over Sean Pierson

Jesse Bongfeldt by decision over Rafael Natal

Ricardo Almeida by 2nd round submission over TJ Grant

Pat Audinwood by 1st round submission over John Kakdessi

There  you have it. The Fight Pastor’s predictions for UFC 124. Let me know what you think. Lets start debating.

Our next Fight Night at Canyon Creek Church will be UFC 125 on New Years Day. Mark it on the calendar and bring in the new year with the Fight Pastor!
