Survivor Episode 4: An Ode to Coach

This episode was shaping up like 2 of the last 3 with Boston Rob being the player of the week. After the villains win the reward challenge and the immunity challenge under Rob’s leadership it looked like he’d win again. Then JT pulls the big move of the night. I will get to that later. First my episode reflections.

  • Coach starts the episode off by crying because the mean old Sandra called him out at Tribal Council. Coach actually said he was going to quit because the game did not deserve his nobility. (I burst out into laughter.) He really is the most delusional player to ever be a Survivor contestant. He later on actually referred to himself as a legend. The best part of the Coach mental breakdown was when he begged Boston Rob to be his BFF. He kept pushing it and Rob kept rejecting it. Poor Rob, how awkward to have 15 million people watching Coach pine for your approval and love.
  • The slip and slide reward challenge was lame but amusing. I would love to know how the producers determined the match ups. Seeing Russell destroy Cirie and James embarrass Sandra made one wonder why Russell and James weren’t playing against each other and Cirie and Sandra against each other. Mark Burnett is a wiser man than I, so I will just trust him.
  • Russell isn’t playing as well this season as he did on the last. I am now jumping off the Russell band wagon. He has gotten too cocky. Pride comes before a fall. His fall will probably happen, barring a miracle, in the next couple episodes. Searching for the immunity idol after King Rob told everyone not to was a bad idea to begin with. But not trying to be less obvious once you did search and having Sandra catch you is down right Coach-like. I am still hopeful Russell will redeem himself. If not, Boston Rob is going to have his beaty little head served up on a platter.
  • Tom found the immunity idol and thought he was being sly but Amanda saw him slip it into his sock. It didn’t matter because that idol ended up saving the game for Tom and took out Cirie.
  • Cirie got blindsided at Tribal Council and it was the first bold move made by any hero. That is why my player of the week goes to….

JT. He could have taken the safe way out and voted with the majority writing Colby’s name down. Cirie had orchestrated that maneuver and if it would have played out that way would have clearly been in strategic control of the heroes. The first season JT was on, he never would have made such a bold move. This season he makes the hero’s biggest move so far and blindsides Cirie. That was a phenomenal move. It aligns him with Colby and Tom. It puts him in an alliance with guys who are trustworthy. JT is also the type of person that people are quick to forgive. I highly doubt the rest of the tribe will be upset with him. He is like teflon, nothing sticks to him. Great move taking at the strategic Cirie!

JT is the player of the week. Boston Rob was a close second.
